the story of j's house
where it started and where we're headed
where it started
In early 2019, two local child-advocacy groups partnered together to provide volunteer and financial support to a residential treatment center for boys in northeast Houston. It didn’t take long for those involved to begin to deeply care for the boys and support them through mentorships, tutoring, organized activities, and financial contributions. The love and attention brought to the boys had immediate positive impacts on their behavior, attitudes, and academics. These improvements led to lower trauma designations for the boys, allowing them to return to relatives or be placed with long-term foster families.
A big dream
Unfortunately, the treatment center ceased operations in early 2021. However, the concern for the boys did not stop. Several volunteers felt called to continue the mission to serve the youth. It was clear that the only way to achieve their vision of bringing love, healing, and family to these boys was to establish their own residential treatment center.
It's Official
So, in the fall of 2021, they began researching and planning. J’s House was founded and received 501c3 designation as a charitable organization in the fall of 2022.
let's open this house
Over the next two years, J’s House remained steadfast in their faith – raising awareness of their mission and advocating for children in Texas foster care. By the end of 2024, with the generosity of their amazing community, J’s House raised the funds necessary to purchase and prepare a beautiful home for their boys.
IT STARTS
J’s House is targeting to begin providing transitional housing and therapeutic care to children in Texas foster care in early 2025. Thank you for your support in this journey!
WHY “J’S HOUSE”?
We chose the name “J’s House” to recognize those who inspired this journey. “J” is for Jabaez, Jaquan, James, and Josh – boys in the foster care system we mentored at a local group home. “J” is also for Jayven and Jordan – the inspiration for Jordan’s Closet and the start of Kingwood United Methodist Church’s Oasis ministry. And most importantly, “J” is for our spiritual leader – Jesus. Calling the organization J’s “House” is intended to let the boys we serve know that they are welcome and have a place to call home.
We believe J’s House will succeed in our mission if we remain centered on those we serve.
A TRIBUTE TO THOSE WE LIVE TO SERVE
